From Ireland
Ferry from Larne or Belfast to Stranraer. Follow the A 75 and follow the signs to Dumfries. Turn right onto either the A 755, or the A 762 to Kirkcudbright.
From Continental Europe - via Hull
Ferry from Zeebrugge or Rotterdam to Hull in England. Take the A63 (becoming the M62) following signs to Leeds. Turn North on the A1 (becoming A1 (M)) and follow until Scotch Corner. Turn left and follow A66 following signs for Penrith. Turn North on M 6 and follow signs for Carlisle and Glasgow. The M6 becomes the A74 north of Carlisle, keep following signs for Glasgow. Immediately on crossing the English/Scottish Border, look for signs for A75 direction Dumfries and Stranraer. Follow the A75 until the signpost for Kirkcudbright appears (after the by–pass of the town of Castle Douglas). Turn left onto the A711 and follow to Kirkcudbright.
From Continental Europe - via Rosyth
By Ferry from Zeebrugge to Rosyth (Firth of Forth near Edinburgh). Follow signs to Edinburgh via Forth Road Bridge. At South end of bridge, take A8000 and follow signs for M8 to Glasgow. Keep on following Glasgow signs until signs for Carlisle M74 South. Follow M74 South until the sign for the A701 to Dumfries. At Dumfries by-pass, follow signs for A75 to Stranraer. Follow the A75 until signpost for Kirkcudbright appears (after the by-pass of the town of Castle Douglas). Turn left onto A711 and follow to Kirkcudbright.
From Continental Europe - via Dover
By Ferry from Calais to Dover, Folkestone or any Channel Port, and proceed to London. Alternatively take the Channel Tunnel to London. Follow signs from London Ring Road (M25) for M1. Follow the M1 North to Junction 19. Follow signs for M6 North. Follow M6 North to Carlisle. On crossing English/Scottish Border, turn left onto A75 signposted, Dumfries and Stranraer. Follow A 75 until the signpost for Kirkcudbright appears (after the by-pass for the town of Castle Douglas). Turn left onto A711 and follow to Kirkcudbright.
